Runner shuddered, ever so slightly, at the mentioning of going to the medic. He'd forgotten about that. ~"Imma hold you that, Ironhide."~ He replied, though with a bit of fear and uncertainty in his voice. One hand came up to hold onto Ironhide's arm as they started to walk, remaining close to the large black mech.

Ironhide smiled softly and gave his shoulder a reassuring squeeze. ~"C'mon, ye'll be alright. I won't let em hurtcha."~ he assured Runner. He walked with the young mech, his arm around his shoulders to help him feel more secure and safe. He didn't mind so much, the youngster was scared and he honestly could not really blame him. Ironhide had serious misgivings regarding most medics, save one, and that one he rarely saw anymore, much to Ironhide's frustration. But he took it in stride and dealt with it the best he could given the circumstances.
He was grateful for one thing, however: at least they were no longer at war with each other. Reunification seemed to be healing Cybertron, though some young mechs were falling to the remains of the horrors of what was, and Ironhide was determined to fix the problem and save those lost Sparklings instead of letting them end up beaten and starve to death in the dark, cold and alone, forgotten. Or at least save as many as he could. And once Runner completed his training, the young mech would be a valuable asset in completing that seemingly impossible task. He sought to help give the young mech a chance at a better life, and perhaps find a friend, but a partner to help save the lost ones was far beyond what the burly mech had hoped for when he found Runner.
It didn't take long for them to get to the med bay, and true to his word, Ironhide went in with Runner, even sat on the medical berth next to the young mech. ~"Is just a maintenance check. He's a bit outa sorts with all this, never been to a medic b'fore."~ he told the medic as the green and white mech approached them. The medic chuckled a bit and nodded. ~"Another of your lost little Scraplet rescues, Ironhide?"~ he teased good naturedly. Ironhide waved it off with a chuckle and the medic just smiled in response. ~"So, what's your designation then?"~ he asked as he brought up a scanner and begun a preliminary scan of the young mech Ironhide had brought to him.

When they entered the med bay, Runner moved himself closer to Ironhide, but he did not bury his face at all. He watched the medic carefully as Ironhide sat with him on the medical berth. ~"Runner."~ Was all he managed to reply to the medic, watching the scanner warily. ~"What's that?"~ He was just a mite more concerned about the tools the medic was going to be waving around and using than what the medic's designation was, but he would get there.

The medic smiled reassuringly. ~"Oh, it's just a scanner, it won't hurt you. It just gives me a reading of your vital systems and tells me how strong you are and if there are any deficiencies or damage that needs to be attended to."~ His friendly expression turned serious then as he looked at the scan results, glancing at Ironhide, then back to the scanner. ~"Slag... I don't think you could have gotten to this one any later and found him alive."~ he said with a shake of his head.
This made Ironhide more than a little agitated and he curled an arm around Runner protectively. ~"How bad is it?"~ A wary glance from the medic prompted a snort from Ironhide. ~"Dun gimme that look. He's got every right ta know what's wrong with 'im."~ he stated flatly, giving the medic a serious look.
The green and white medic vented a heavy sigh then. ~"Severe Energon starvation for starters, and evidence of serious abuse, being beaten early in life, possibly as early as first growth stage. There's scars and warping in his support struts from serious lack of Energon and lack of proper materials for growth stages, warped plating and some metal fatigue... I picked up full tanks so you already started trying to bring him back, but... I don't know if giving him a full feed was a good idea."~ he said in a serious tone. He looked at Runner then. ~"Are your tanks especially sensitive? If there's debris or rust in there it could make things worse, causing you to purge or causing rust ulcers that'll rupture your tanks and fuel systems. It's not pretty when that happens, believe me."~ he said with a shake of his head towards the end.
Ironhide gave Runner a worried look then, venting a bit. ~"Wish I'da found ya a lot sooner..."~ he offered softly. ~"I'll take care o' ya. Ya won't have ta worry bout starvin' er anything like that again, n I'll be right herewith ya. I won't let nobot hurt ya."~ he tried to reassure Runner, a promise of protection and care he had every intention of proving true.

Runner shook his head. ~"They don't hurt. Maybe a little bit at first, but not now. 'N the other stuff is from fightin'. I fought t'get into the first gang, 'n I've had t'fight t'get away from other bots a couple times."~ He didn't specifically mention Security Forces, but it wasn't always just them. Other thugs might try to take the younger ones' hard-earned scraps. ~"'N I dunno if other stuff got in there. If it did, I prolly didn't notice."~

The medic nodded a bit and ran another scan on Runner. ~"Well, if you're going to put him through training, I'd strongly suggest you get him worked on first. Some of the training will hit him harder than most and could collapse his already damaged structural supports. He needs recuperation time before he can really get into it."~ he suggested seriously.
Ironhide sighed then and looked at Runner. ~"How long he gotta wait? He's eager ta get started now as it is. Ain't fair ta him ta have ta wait now."~ Ironhide said and looked back to the medic.
~"It's hard to say really. It'll depend on how fast his systems respond to treatment for the starvation, micro-fractures, and structural deformities."~ he responded and set the scanner aside. ~"First thing has already been done, giving you good Energon. Second thing, you need a nano-repair cell injection into your system to tend to your structural damage. If you want, I can have Ironhide give you the infusion since you know him and obviously trust him."~ he offered with a smile.
Ironhide nodded at that. ~"Yeah, I can do that."~ he answered and looked to Runner. ~"Ya okay with that arrangement? Me givin' ya the treatments ya need?"~ he asked the young mech.

Runner listened carefully as the medic spoke, a crestfallen look passing over his faceplates when the medic said that he would have to wait to start training, and he looked down a bit. He looked back up when the medic spoke to him, a glimmer of hope popping up. ~"Uh-huh!"~ He quickly agreed, nodding his head, then tilted it slightly in curiosity, looking at Ironhide. ~"What's an injection?"~

Ironhide rubbed Runner's back soothingly. ~"Injections're when they take somethin' n pierce yer fluid system ta put stuff in there. Dun hurt usually, but some dun react well t' the idea o' havin' their fluid lines punctured. I know I don't."~ he answered honestly.
The medic smiled at them. ~"It's a harmless procedure and the puncture is small and easily mended by your own systems. There's no danger of seepage or losing anything."~ he assured the youngster and headed over to one of the nearby work stations to prepare a nano-repair cell infusion tube for Runner.

~"Okay."~ Runner responded, though from the tone of his voice, he was less-than-thrilled about the process. He watched the medic with sharp optics, observing everything the medic did. One of his hands wrapped around Ironhide's back and held on tightly, trying to not show any other fear than that. ~"Where does it go?"~

Ironhide continued rubbing Runner's back to try and keep him calm as the younger mech held onto him. ~"Usually a main fluid line in yer arm er shoulder. I'll do it so it dun hurt, okay? Ya know I won't hurt ya."~ he told Runner and looked warily at the medic as he finished the tube and brought it over, the sharp needle clearly visible along with the gently swirling silvery nano cells suspended in clear fluid inside the transparent tube. ~"I'll take that. Ye'll just go stand aside. I'll take care o' him."~ he said gruffly and took the injector tube from the medic. The medic let him take it and stepped aside, letting the burly mech attend to the young one.

~"Okay."~ Runner's voice was a bit quieter as he watched the medic hand Ironhide the tube, spotting the swirling silver of the nanobots in the fluid. Carefully, and slowly, he extended the arm that wasn't clinging to Ironhide, his attention on the needle completely. He wasn't necessarily expecting it to hurt, but he also didn't really know what to expect. So, he erred on the side of caution, and watched it carefully.

Ironhide smiled softly and and gently grasped Runner's arm. ~"Just open up this upper panel on yer shoulder n I'll put it there."~ he said, touching the back end of the tube to a plate on the front of his shoulder near the joint. Once the panel is open, Ironhide gently reached in and cradled one of the large fluid lines in his fingers, then ever so gently, pressed the tip of the needle into the tube between the segments and carefully allowing the nano-repair cells to move into Runner's fluid line. He looked to Runner then as the infusion tube gradually drained, offering a reassuring smile.

Runner obediently opened the armor panel that Ironhide tapped, revealing the lines underneath. He watched as Ironhide inserted the needle into the line he'd selected, wincing a little bit, then relaxing when it didn't hurt any more than the initial sting. ~"That didn't really hurt at all!"~ He stated with a small grin. ~"How long does 'Hide have to do this?~" He asked, looking over at the medic.

The broad shouldered medic smiled and picked up the scanner as the injector was completely drained into Runner's fluid system. ~"Well, let's see how you do with this first infusion, then plan the next ten Cycles."~ he said with a smile and scanned Runner, tracking the new nano-cells as they moved through the young mech's systems. The nano-repair cells flooded the young mech's systems, seeking any damage they could find, seeping through specialized valves in his fluid tubes and swarm over the damaged areas, diligently applying themselves to repairing and replenishing Runner's weakened structure by filling in the micro-fractures and strengthening the metal. ~"So far, so good. Ironhide, keep a close monitor on his Energon intake and bring him here every Cycle for a nano-cell infusion and full scans to check on his progress. We'll go from there as his condition improves."~ he said as he gives a satisfied nod at the scans.
Ironhide nodded in response to that. ~"Well, that ain't so bad, a Mega-Cycle then trainin' can start."~ he offered with a smile. ~"If the med bot dun object too loudly anyway."~ he added with a smirk. ~"Do I needa keep 'im with me er can he bunk with the other young bots trainin' so he can get ta know some o' them?"~ he asked, though he reached around to rub Runner's back reassuringly to let the young mech know he wasn't abandoning him.

Runner leaned against Ironhide, trying to hide the disappointment at being unable to start training the next Cycle. ~"Can't I start some of the training?"~ He asked the medic, his optics wide and slightly pleading. If there was nothing for him to do, he knew he'd start to get restless. It always happened when there was nothing to do back in Kaon, so he'd made sure to keep as busy as he could.
