December 18th, 2027//Time: 12:00pm//Location Starts at: an apartment building The boxes were filled with things, like pictures and clothes. The landlord was nice and had people come, all of them whispering condolences to a six year old who had, so far, processed that her mother wasn't going to be coming back. Courtney Flynn was dead and she had left Madeline Flynn-Morgan alone. So, she sat in the next-door lady's apartment, while they muttered about a father and funeral arrangements and Maddie just stared straight ahead, a black horse clutched tightly in her hands. She stared at the front door of the apartment and turned silent eyes to her 'Nana'. "Just keep to the building dear," the woman answered as she turned to the landlord, already continuing their discussion about arangements and a father. Maddie left the apartment, about to leave when her mother's voice rang clear and loud, { "Don't you dare, silly head! Bundle up!"} Maddie paused to pull on a sweater before she ran outside, blonde hair flying out from the braid her 'nana' had done that morning. More people called out their condolences and suddenly, Maddie was running, she was running down the flights of stairs and out. She didn't think, she just rushed, her black stuffed horse clutched tightly in her left hand. Her mother's voice ran through her ears and tears began to slide down her face. She let out a startled cry of surprise as she tripped over an untied shoelace and crashed onto the sidewalk. And, after two days of being told her mother was dead, Maddie began to cry, dressed in her bright red sweater that was a bit too big and jeans, still clinging to her black stuffed horse, and dangerously close to the street.

KARR was parked in an alley way across from where Maddie was. The older brother of KITT was taking a break and doing some research idly. He was glad to get away as always. He loved his freedom so.
What he wasn't expecting to see as he relaxed in the alley way was a little girl out on her lonesome across the street run out from an apartment.
Cautious and curious, he drove out of his hiding place and moved slowly, following the residential speed limits as slow as he could manage. He had never taken time to observe such a tiny human before--well, of late. He was almost marveled over the complexity of humans then. Most of the time he didn't care about what he observed of them because he was trying to avoid every single one, but at this very moment he was simply: curious.

Maddie didn't notice KARR until he was closer mainly because she was sobbing quite hard. She noticed the car driving towards her when she got her breathing under better control, even if it was raspy and hard to breathe now. There was a soft whistling in her breathing with each breathe and she stared at the car, curious. Her knee was over the curb by this point and, without able to think of anything better to do, face red and splotchy, she waved at the car.
It was not her usual energetic wave and she moved to get up when she got caught on her shoelace again and flew forward once more, this time into the street. She let out a strangled sound of pain as she skinned up the palm of her right hand, the other safe because of her death grip on her black stuffed horse.
She fell back, her hand sluggishly bleeding and blinked a bit, trying to figure out what happened and completely forgetting she was sitting in a street. She was staring at her hand, almost like she was trying to dissect it with her eyes, unknowingly placing herself in a lot of danger.

KARR wasn't compassionate like KITT was. In most cases, he would leave a human to die in their situation if it didn't pertain to his own survival. He noticed the loose shoelace. "Your shoe is untied." he spoke in that dark voice very much like Optimus as he pulled over to the side near Madeline and turned on both his blinkers to make passing vehicles wary he had in fact stopped.
KARR had nothing to do today, he might as well stop. When did he have anything important to do? He was headed back to Texas, but was taking his time to do so. Mission City was a monumental city after all, it was good to check in there frequently.
He wondered how Maddie would react to his car form speaking to her - it was unclear if anyone was at the wheel behind those nearly pitch black darkened windshield. The twin amber scanners paced hypnotically rather close to Maddie and generated a naturally hypnotic hum. He didn't feel like using his holoform self. What would a little girl do about his existence anyway?

Maddie looked up at the car with the yellow scanner that had pulled up, turning on the blinkers. She blinked and then looked back down at her shoes. She sat down then and stared at her untied shoes. Her lip immediately began quivering and she hugged herself. She stared at her shoe, not fully realizing that she was still sitting in the street and, if it hadn't been for KARR practically parking in front of her and throwing up his blinkers, she would probably get run over.
"I...I don't know how to tie my shoes," she admitted softly, staring at her shoes as tears began to slip down her face.
She sniffled and rubbed her face on her sweater sleeve, even as she continued to cry softly. "Mommy said she'd teach me," she hiccuped out, the whistling accompanying every breath.
She sniffled more and bumped her foot against the ground despondently. She was still crying, her chest constricting painfully as her asthma began act up even more then before. She took her injured hand and clung to her sweater, right over her chest, as she tried to force herself to breathe calmly. She began a wheezing cough through her sobs, unable to stop.
And she didn't even think that talking to a car was strange.

Well that was a different reaction than expected. Especially from such a young child. This one must be unique in some way. "That is a shame. Where is she?" KARR didn't know she meant her mother had died and didn't consider the possibility. He thought she was just speaking in the past tense and upset over a silly little thing. The possibility of parental death did not occur to him at this time. KARR actually debated about helping her via his holoform. It would be out of character for him to help a human, especially one that judged him. But she did not, at least so far. What was the harm? But then again, why bother? Such a simple debate was going through KARR's processor.

Madeline couldn't stop the tears from increasing at his simple question. Once again, talking to a car wasn't strange, as she had done so with every object she could come up with. They just never talked back and, right now, Madeline needed someone to talk to that wasn't going to murmur over her head or pat her head, or generally act like they weren't sure how to treat her. She sniffled more and brought her stuffed animal up to hug tightly to her. "They say that Mommy isn't coming back, that she's dead. Like the baby bird I found once. Only, I guess, bigger. It's the only promise Mommy ever broke. Well...second, I guess. The first she broke was coming back safe," she answered, through shaking sobs and breaths that came like a pitiful kitten's mewl.
It was obvious she was distressed and lost, unsure of how to handle something as large as 'death'. Despite being six, it was obvious she wasn't entirely sure what being 'dead' was, except that it meant that her mother was never coming back.
And still the pitch in her breathing was there, like a little kitten's mewl.

KARR wondered what the nature of the accident was. He had caused some in the past, he had to admit. But he saw the human population as being higher than it needed to be and he felt no remorse from being a little reckless in his driving. He had no way to suspect or doubt he was responsible for this accident unless he found out how she died, if the girl even knew. But there was another curious question to ask. "Do you not have a father you can go to? You ought to be lucky you have two creators." KARR spoke. He couldn't really soften his voice, because that required more emotion than he usually had, but he could do it if he tried hard enough. He just didn't feel like it right now.

Maddie sniffled and rubbed her eyes, turning to face the car. "I know I have one, but I never met him. That's what they're discussing up there," she answered honestly, carefully pointing upwards at the apartment building. It was vague a bit, even in the waving of her hand.
"I'm not really sure where my apartment is. They just told me she was in an accident, but I don't know what kind. She promised to come back safe and she didn't. I don't know why that happened, at all, but it...doesn't make sense. And it hurts. More then an asthma attack, more then....anything ever before," she stated, rubbing her face with the sleeve of her red sweater.
She then looked at her skinned hand. She wasn't sure what to do with the stinging hand. She then looked at the car. "What's your name?" she asked, her eternal curiosity spiking.
Her thirst for knowledge was overpowering at times and this was one of these times.
She really couldn't help it.
Too bad her mother never taught her 'stranger danger' beyond {"you don't go near people you don't know, you don't get into cars without knowing who they are, and if they grab you, scream holy murder, scratch scream, bite, and yell the 'r' word I taught you, loudly."}
It was pretty sound advice, except it forgot the 'don't talk to strangers' part.

"I am the Knight Automotive Robot, KARR for easy reference." KARR replied, pondering over how the little girl felt about death. "I have a limited sense of emotions, and I certainly have yet to feel any remorse over anyone's death, because my upbringing is much different than yours. It would probably be too complex for you to understand." He emphasized: "Probably."
"What is your name, little one?" he asked.
Luckily for Madeline, KARR was in a good enough mood he had no reason to be irritable and violent with a little girl that clearly had no intention of hurting him. Such was KARR's way of things. If he didn't feel threatened or wasn't attacked, he had no reason to destroy unless he hit something on accident while driving. People not being alert wasn't his problem.

Madeline blinked a bit at the car. Okay, so she was actually talking to a car. A car who had emotions. But he didn't have a lot of them. She listened and leaned forward slightly before she winced upon feeling her hand scrape against her jeans. She looked at KARR and she settled more on the sidewalk curb. Her head twitched to the side and she listened. "I'm Madeline. Or Maddie. Mama always called me Maddie. Unless I was in trouble. Then she called me by my full name in a really scary voice," she answered, the soft sound like a kitten's mewl still in each breath.
She shifted a bit and focused on the car. "Why is your upbringing different from mine? And why don't you feel remorse?" she asked, curious about KARR.
She wanted to know about him. Besides, the could play 20 Questions, only with asking each other questions. She and Mama used to play that all the time. Well, all the time Mama had time. Madeline rubbed her face with her sleeve, mopping up tears that had started falling down her cheeks again.
"KARR, do you have friends?" she asked, unable to stop asking herself from asking him.
Because she needed to know.

"All though I am not necessarily obliged to answer your curious questions, I shall. I am created by your kind, little one. Therefore I have limits based on a human's understanding of programming. My programming has adapted far more than they anticipated which thus suggests my ability to sense some level of emotions...but because of that and my unique qualities, I have yet to experience many things, such as the benefits of "friendship"-however you wish to define such a term. I have made more enemies than friends because of my past." KARR would have shrugged if he had been in his new robotic form. The subject never really came to his processor when he was parked somewhere alone. He was more interested in just 'being himself' than seeking friends.

Maddie was silent for a time, digesting what it was that KARR had told her. She closed her eyes and her eyebrows scrunched, deep in thought as she considered what he said. "Does that mean you are smarter then anyone was expecting? Because, that's kind-of what it sounds like, only bigger. Like you were unexpected. Mama always said the contents mean more then the cover, so I guess people forgot to take into account your contents, huh?" she stated and she opened her eyes to stare at KARR, eyes wide, trying to understand.
"I don't have friends either," she added softly as she stared at the yellow light thingy. She wasn't entirely sure what that was and she leaned back slightly before she curled up a little, holding tightly onto her stuffed horse.
She twitched her head slightly and smiled at KARR. "If you want, I would like to be your friend," she stated cheerfully, unaware of the consequences her actions might have.

"Yes...I was rather unexpected." KARR replied. "A friend...I suppose it could not hurt to start learning about what that means. I simply hope you can forgive me of my imperfections and judge me on your own accord rather than others' mistaken judgements." he said hopefully. KARR was naturally violent and hell bent on survival, and too many people judged him on that basis alone. He was getting tired of it even though he had a new role, a new life among the Decepticons. He would do whatever it took to live a ilfe he deemed satisfying that was absent of his so called 'twin' trying to exterminate him like he was some foul vermin. He had been wrong in being so single minded about being Mike's partner, and he was well over that now. There was far more than that to look forward to now.

Maddie perked up, almost all of her sadness of her mother's death clearing at the fact that KARR had agreed to be her friend. She smiled brightly and nodded eagerly. "As Mama always said, 'You need to read the contents before you judge' to be too. It usually followed the 'judge by the contents not the cover.' She was always insistent that I learn about people before I judged them, because they never do that for me," she answered cheerfully and resisted the urge to hug his hood.
She wasn't sure how well he would take that and decided to take the first step. "Can I hug your hood?" she inquired, even as she wondered how that would work. She resisted the urge to just leap up and do it.
Maddie carefully stood up however, eager to attempt to hug his hood. Unless he said no.
Then she wouldn't.
Because KARR was her friend! Her first and, so far, only friend! She didn't want to upset him.
