"There's an open field several miles north of Mission City. We'll meet you there." Once Edi responded, Nathan would turn the phone off, and begin moving. "C'mon, Shilo. Let's get your things packed."
Father and daughter spent the next hour packing all of her belongings up, well, the ones that had been unpacked and that remained, Nathan making sure that Shilo would havemore than enough of her medication for a while. Once that was done, they took a cab to the closest rest stop to the field, and there they waited for Edi.

EDI rocketed towards Mission City Nevada, eager to cover the distance quickly, even with his stealth mode activated and his nanoskin camouflaging him as he flew. He could easily fly Mach 6 or better, but he didn't want to push his engines too hard and needed to be sure he had enough fuel for the flight back, not that he was running low on A1 Catalyzed Methane fuel, but he knew he would have to fly much slower and more carefully once Shilo was on board. It took him just over two hours to clear that distance in flight from DC to Mission City at such speeds, and he slowed considerably as he veered north towards the indicated location Shilo's father had given him. Reaching the field, he circled carefully, searching for Shilo and her father and ensuring that no one had followed them before he swooped in and landed a dozen yards from them and shut down his engines. As they approached him, his cockpit opened and he greeted the young girl kindly. "Hello, Shilo. It is good to see you again."

Seeing Edi flying overhead, Shilo and Nathan began clearing the distance between themselves and the field, waiting for Edi to land before approaching the aircraft. "It's good to see you again as well, Edi." Shilo replied, smiling. Her book bag was slung over her shoulder, while her dad held onto her clothing bag. "What's it like there?"

EDI regarded Shilo's father, expecting him to be as protective of her as Keith was of EDI. He thought over her question, then responded kindly. "The Autobots are not what the Preservers of Earth claimed. Command Control lied to us. The Autobots are very large, but they are careful. There are humans there, many soldiers. They are friends. The Autobots' leader is thoughtful and considerate." he assured her. He regarded her father for a moment. "I will keep her safe, she is my friend." he promised Nathan.

Nathan nodded. "I'll hold you to that, EDI." He replied, putting and arm protectively around Shilo. "Right now, she's all I have..." With that, he turned Shilo gently to look at her, lowering himself down a bit so he could look her eye-to-eye better, hands on her upper arms. "Be safe, and don't forget about your medication, alright?" He spoke quietly. "I won't be there to remind you. If you need more, just give me a call and let me know."
Shilo nodded as her father spoke to her, her eyes beginning to moisten and glisten with tears. She'd been yearning for the chance to be free, but now it scared her. "I will, dad." She replied, then threw her arms around him in a hug. Once they released each other, Nathan held out her bag of clothing, which she took before turning to look at Edi. "I'm ready." She told the AI, rubbing at her eyes to get rid of the tears.

"Then we must go." he replied, waiting for her to climb into his open cockpit and get settled before he closed it and started up his Scramjet Engines. After a moment, EDI lifted up off the ground slowly, tucking away his landing gear and hovering there for a moment before turning his air frame Eastward. He started out gradually before picking up speed so Shilo would not be injured from the sudden acceleration.

Sitting in the cockpit, Shilo looked out to watch her dad quickly disappear, then turned to look forward, holding her bags close to her. She was still scared and nervous, as well as trying to not cry again. "I'll see him again, right, Edi?" She asked, reaching out to place a hand gently on Edi's sphere.

EDI considered the question as he flew for a moment, uncertain how to answer. "I hope so, Shilo. I do not like to see you hurt." he finally responded, uncertain what else he could say. "Your father wants you to be safe, I will keep you safe. I promised him, and I always keep a promise. To do otherwise is to lie, and I can not lie." he told her. He continued to fly, though not as fast as before for Shilo's sake. It would take longer to return to the Autobot base, but keeping her safe was the priority, not expediency of travel.

Edi's response made Shilo smile a bit. "Thanks, Edi." She replied, setting into the seat while turning to look out of his cockpit to watch the sky. Slowly, she felt her eyelids drooping, her body demanding some rest from all the excitement.

EDI noted her need for sleep and decided to help by softly playing a soothing and wordless song, something EDI thought would be good to help ease her into sleep as he flew, and he kept his turns shallow so he wouldn't disturb her. His intent upon getting her to the Autobot base was to get Shilo to his father, Keith Orbit, the one human he has always trusted, his creator. But Keith was not the only human EDI trusted; Ben Gannon and Kara Wade, his two surviving squad mates were two others, and now, Shilo and her father Nathan were added to that list.
As the hours passed, EDI thought about those few he trusted and cared for, and he wondered if he would ever see Ben and Kara again. He set those thoughts aside as he neared the base, calling to Keith to alert him about Shilo. <"Doctor Orbit, I am returning to base and I am bringing a young girl who needs protection. Her name is Shilo and she is my friend. She and her father, Nathan, were held prisoner by the Preservers of Earth, her father forced to work for them. We believe Shilo's mother is also a prisoner of the Preservers of Earth, this is the reason Shilo and her father were made to work for them."> he explained, knowing Keith would understand.
As he landed, he gently woke Shilo, letting her know they had arrived at their destination. "Doctor Orbit will be here to take you with him shortly." he said to her. "Do not be afraid, my father will protect you."

As Edi began to play the song, Shilo let herself slip fully into the embrace of sleep. As she slept, she dreamed, though it was far more realistic than a normal dream. She dreamed of a world, one completely made of metal, with the buildings reaching into the sky far, far above her. There was no sun, but the lights of the city were bright enough to make her think that it was day, even though she could see the stars. Large, robotic beings walked around her, though none seemed to notice her. She had to move quickly to avoid being stepped on. Managing to duck into an alley, she spotted another robotic figure, one much smaller than the others, one much closer to her size, though still taller than her. They were also slightly more humanized, though still obviously alien. the robot was looking out into the city, shaking their head as they spoke. "The war will come here soon as well...I must leave before then..." The voice sounded so familiar to her, but she couldn't place it. As they turned away to walk deeper into the alley, Shilo began running towards them.
"Wait"! She called, trying to catch up to the form that was slowly disappearing into the darkness. As she ran, everything began to grow darker, and darker, until finally, she could see nothing.
Edi's voice pulled her out of the remnants of the dream, and into wakefulness. "Doctor Orbit?" She asked groggily, rubbing the remnants of her nap out of her eyes. "Doctor Orbit's your father?"

EDI regarded her thoughtfully as she awoke, wondering what she had been dreaming about. "Affirmative. Doctor Keith Orbit created me. I was not deployed for very long in two thousand sixteen when my body was destroyed, but I survived. Doctor Orbit rebuilt me, but I would not accept the lies from the Preservers of Earth, so I warned you to escape and freed my father when I destroyed their base in Colorado." he explained, his systems ever watchful of the alien radiation signatures the Autobots gave off, monitoring where each one was in relation to himself and Dr Orbit's cell phone signal at all times.
