Hearing the words Phayze had said to him so long ago made Jazz' optics pop open and he looked at him in surprise. So he did remember after all. Jazz' expression softened and he smiled then. "Harder than any of us expected, Phayze. But we wouldn't give up on ya, friends never give up on each other n we only let go if a friend is proven dead. We lost you for a while, and even when we started to fear you were dead, we never saw a body so we hoped you were still out there somewhere that you'd find your way back to us." He got up then and walked over to the cell, placing his hand on the transparent wall between them, his other hand still at his shoulder where his feline symbiote perched. "I never gave up hope..." he offered softly.

Charter went quiet, pushing down the emotions that his past brought up. It hurt to hear it, even such a brief and vague description cause the haunting memories to resurface, but he knew it would help Phayze. While part of him wished he had never told Phayze about it at the same time he was thankful that he had. Such a personal thing to recall, something so few knew and that only someone who spoke with him personally would be likely to learn, that should solidify the memories of their time together, paving the way for other memories to resurface, as they seemed to be already. One by one he could begin to remember his friends and allies, each new recovery leading to more. It was a sort of domino effects, and now that it had started all there was to do was to make sure nothing stopped it. Still, the resurfacing of his own memories was painful, but it was necessary. He would just have to bury them again, find something else to focus on. Work usually helped with that, he could always keep himself busy with that.

Phayze smiled a bit at Jazz, though when he looked over at Charter, the smile faded a bit. "I'm sorry, Charter." He stated solemnly. "It just kinda...flowed out." He remembered how much those memories could hurt Charter, considering they reminded him that his entire family was gone. "If it's not too much trouble, could I ask a favor?" He turned a bit, moving his still-bound arms. "It's making my shoulder joints stiffen up a bit..."

Jazz smiled at that and looked over at Charter, then unlocked the door and stepped into the cell with Phayze while his small feline companion tucked itself back under his armor again. "Here, I'll help you with those." he said and went about unlocking them. Phayze was, after all, an Autobot to his core, he just had to remember that fact. Jazz was hopeful that with time, Phayze would return to his old self again.

Charter looked at Phayze, forcing a small, gentile smile to comfort him. "It's alright," he said, assuringly. "It's good that you could remember that. Uncovering more deeply personal memories will help with your recovery." He watched as Jazz unlocked the bindings. Phayze seemed to be doing alright right now, so it should be safe enough to do so, they'd just need to be ready in case that changed. "Do you recall any other memories like that, about anyone? Conversations? Training exercises? Sparring sessions?" The more people he could recall the better, it would open up that network of memories even faster.

"I remember you forgetting to duck while entering the base a couple of Cycles before I had to leave." Phayze replied, chuckling a bit. "And the prank war that the twins declared on Jazz, and Ratchet's solution to Ironhide's uncooperativeness in the med bay."

Jazz had to chuckle at the memories Phayze brought up. "Yeah, those two can be quite a handful sometimes. Ironhide raised 'em so you'd think they'd be better behaved." he remarked. "Ironhide was always the grumpy and uncooperative one when it comes to anything to do with the med bay. Funny thing is, outside the med bay, 'Hide n Ratch' are pretty close friends." he added and looked over at Charter. He stayed inside the cell, moving to lean against the door frame that led into the cell. He wanted Phayze to feel comfortable, figuring that being more relaxed might help the under cover scout remember who he really was and the truth about his past and his friends, his Autobot friends.

Charter nodded, his smile becoming a bit more genuine, though with him it could be hard to tell the difference. Phayze's memories seemed to be recovering quite well. It was good that they had managed to get him out now, the longer he had remained undercover the more difficult it was likely to be to uncover those memories. "I just have one more question. Then we can just talk, about whatever you want to talk about. Do you remember why you joined the Autobots?" If he could remember that it should solidify the fact that he was, in fact, an Autobot. Choosing a side in a civil war was not something done lightly, and if he could remember what pushed him to make the choice he did, the feelings and thoughts that influenced him, it shouldn't be too hard to fully remember who he really was after that.

"Because...Because..." Phayze blinked a couple of times, trying to clear his thoughts. As he tried to answer the question, however, his optics darkened again, and the glare returned. His frame tensed, seeing that the cell was open, and the only thing standing between himself and the outside of the cell was Jazz. Moving quickly, he charged Jazz, hand coming back to attack the head of SpecOps.

Jazz blinked and yelped when Phayze lunged at him unexpectedly, and all he could do was meet and hopefully deflect that charge away from the door. He really didn't want to hurt the poor confused mech, but if he continued the attack, then Jazz would have no choice in the matter. For the moment he merely deflected and pushed Phayze away from the door. "HEY! Take it easy, Phayze! We're your friends, remember?" he called out, hoping to jar Phayze back to himself again.

Charter moved towards the door quickly to be able to stop Phayze if he managed to get past Jazz. He frowned a bit, it seemed there was still a great deal of conflict in his mind about what was true and what wasn't, which has sparked the relapse. "Phayze, think about everything you just told us, everything you just remembered. You know it's true, how else could you have known such things? We're trying to help you. It may take a while but things will get clearer in time, you just have to trust us. We've held out for you this long, we'll help you through this no matter how long it may take." He hoped that that got through to him, that he could recognize their genuine desire to help him even in his current state. If they were lucky it may jolt him back into being himself again.

"Help me?" Phayze snarled. "Trust you? Lies!" He turned from the door, knowing he couldn't get through it right now. "I do not trust you at all, and I do not need your help." The scout sat, his back to the two Autobots. "I am finished speaking with you. There is nothing more to speak about." A few moments passed before he turned slightly, glancing at Charter over his shoulder, a small smirk on his faceplates. "You would make a good toy for her." He added, mostly as an afterthought, before turning back to face away once more.

Jazz could only blink in confusion and look to Charter, then back to Phayze, then back to Charter again, a helpless and confused expression on his face plates. When he turned his gaze back to his old friend, Jazz tried once more to appeal to Phayze in the hopes of saving him. "Phayze, please..." he pleaded softly, the tone of his voice sounding as if his very Spark was breaking. "I... I'm sorry... I never gave up hope, never gave up on you..." he added just as softly, stepping back towards the door, realizing that his old friend was indeed lost to him, at least for now, and there was nothing Jazz could do to help Phayze come back to his friends. Once at the cell door, he vented sadly and stepped out, shutting the door behind him, before stepping away from the cell, his head down in defeat and sorrow. "I never wanted to leave him there..." he admitted to Charter as he stepped past the tall slender bot.

Inwardly Charter couldn't help but wonder who Phayze was referring to or why he would make such a good 'toy' for her but he showed no sign of it. After all, it wasn't really that important at the moment and considering Phayze's relapse he wasn't about to press for details. As Jazz passed him he turned and placed a gentle hand on his shoulder. "I understand..." he said softly, walking with the shorter mech. Truth be told, he hadn't particularly wanted Phayze to leave on that mission either. It was extremely dangerous and he'd had a number of concerns about it, concerns he couldn't voice without revealing that Phayze had accidentally slipped up and told him about the mission in the first place. "But this does show that we can still get through to him." He kept his voice low to ensure that only Jazz would hear him, with Phayze's current mistrusting state he might have reacted negatively if he overheard, reinforcing the mental block that was already there. "I will continue working with him, help him recover little by little. It's probably going to be tricky and there's no telling how long it may take, but I will get him to remember who he really is, I will bring Phayze back to us." He glanced back over his shoulder at Phayze for a moment. "At least he's out of there now..."

Jazz could only nod helplessly, though in his Spark he held out hope that Charter could somehow help Phayze come back to them. His thoughts drifted a bit and he shuddered involuntarily, but he dismissed any inquiry about it as nothing important. He couldn't help but wonder if it had been him on that mission instead of Phayze, would he have gone mad as well. Jazz felt as if some part of him was still lost somewhere after what Megatron had done to him when they first landed on Earth and the nightmares that still haunted him, a part of himself he feared he would never find. What if the same was true for Phayze? What if some part of his old friend was lost and would never be found again? That thought made him turn and look back at Phayze. He wanted to say something, do something, anything that would show not only had he not given up on Phayze, but that Jazz understood the pain he was going through now. "It feels like something's wrong inside, like some part of you is missing... lost somehow... and you can't figure out what's been lost... can't find it..." he offered loud enough for Phayze to hear. By his tone, Jazz clearly sounded like he knew, like he felt that same loss he spoke of, a loss he couldn't identify, let alone find again. At least not yet anyway.
