Soundwave smiled softly, noting that Wavelength seemed tired. ~"Rest. Continue practice after recharge."~ he suggested, triggering the Energon compartment to close so the shielding remained intact and leaving the Energon undetectable. He dampened the sound from outside and amplified only the sound of his own Spark, giving something soothing for Wavelength to listen to so he could slip into recharge more easily. Young mechlings needed their rest after all, and Soundwave was not one to deny him such needs.

Wavelength gave a small chuckle ~"Yea, I haven't let myself hit full recharge in a while, always having to stay aware."~ he admitted, moving to lay on his right side and balling up a little, his slight frame didn't take up a whole lot of space which meant that the small, rather smooth area he had found to sit was also good enough for him to rest on.

Soundwave remained quiet, letting Wavelength rest peacefully as he watched over him. In that time, Laserbeak and Buzzsaw finally returned to him, alerting Soundwave of their approach. He stepped quietly to the cave entrance and the pair flew up to him and alighted on his shoulders, nuzzling in close as he turned and went back into the cave to show them his new charge. They had received his signal through the bond informing them of the change, and now they got to see the young mechling in person curled up resting in the back of the cave. Knowing Wavelength was a flier, the pair decided to welcome him in their own way and went over to him, curling up against him as they would with each other, their symbiotic brothers, and Soundwave. If this one was going to be around extensively, then why not accept him as part of their flock? Seeing their acceptance of Wavelength made him smile. Perhaps his family would grow with this new addition and not leave Wavelength as merely a student under his tutelage.

Wavelength's rest was undisturbed, though when the avian bots came to him, his softly placed a hand over them, sort of cuddling back with them. No nightmares came to him and it was needed. Over the next 3 1/2 anocycles Wavelength began to grow up and, like all young teens, once he got to that certain stage his ego started to show a bit, as did that will, a will the young mech had been afraid to show before due to his timidness.
After Soundwave had been gone for a couple of days, Wavelength had decided he wanted to add on to his frame again and, in Soundwave's absence, found the time to add another etching to his body, this time on his face. Fresh energon leaked a bit from the etching on the metal of the young bot's face, having used his holoform to make it perfect. He used a rag to dab off most of the liquid though a little more seeped out, he just let it, it would help it heal a bit. Using his ability with light, which he had been getting much better with, to create a mirror effect on one of the wall's surfaces, he inspected his work, smiling a bit. Now that he had done that, he wanted to find Soundwave, first off, to show him a new trick he had figured out how to do and second, to see his reaction to the new marking.
The teen mech decided he wasn't going to just wait for Soundwave to return, he had waited long enough. He knew he was safer hidden but he wanted to find his mentor who he had begun to look to as a father and he turned to run from the hiding place he'd been waiting in, running to the exit of it and, as soon as there was open air above him, he lept up, transforming to his alt mode and taking off through the sky. He bent the light around himself as he flew, looking across the landscape to find Soundwave. He stayed high up so he was less likely to be noticed by those he didn't want seeing him.

Soundwave had been out attending to his duties among the Decepticons and this time it involved the aftermath of a battle. Soundwave was in need of Energon, and with the scattering of recently dead chassis laying around holding residual Energon, he used that to not only resupply himself, but to also perpetuate the horrific stories being said of him in order to keep others from attempting to take him out or harm his family. He was very protective of his Symbiotes and Wavelength, and to keep them safe, the rest of the Decepticons had to remain terrified of him. He knelt next to one of the bodies and leaned over it, scanning its systems. He reached out with a tendril and plugged into the bot's neural core, extracting whatever residual data that still remained within the unfortunate mech's processor. Then he activated his Sonic Cannons, adjusting the frequencies as he pulled open the bot's chest, using low frequency sound to draw the remaining Energon out of the rest of the chassis and into the laser core where he could coalesce it into a sphere and pull it up into specialized compartments within his chassis, powering his weapon's array. He then stood and turned, looking for another chassis to strip bare of Energon. Most of the dead were Decepticons, though a few Autobots had also fallen. But to Soundwave's logic, once dead, they held no more allegiance than a pile of rusted scrap, and as such, had become little more than useable information and Energon resources that he was not about to let go to waste. He was not yet aware of Wavelength's approach, and by the time his young protege had found him, Soundwave had gone through most of the dead bodies on the battlefield, moving from one to the next in his typical cold, emotionless, and methodical fashion.

Wavelength caught glimpse of a familiar pattern of scattering light not too far and moved faster. What he saw upon approaching, however, shocked him. Wavelength dove, uncloaking himself right at Soundwave, buzzing right over his head ~"You lied to me!"~ the young mech shouted as he passed, transforming and landing not too far in front of Soundwave ~"You said it was stories, that you weren't like them, you lied to me!"~ the teen mech said, the contortion of his expression and speech causing that fresh etching in his face to leak a tiny bit as he went right up to Soundwave in and attempt to right out shove him back despite the size difference. No matter if that shove moved Soundwave or not he'd step back again ~"Tell me they're just stories you use to protect us, go ahead, lie again, I just saw the truth!"~ Wavelength pretty much yelled at Soundwave as the area around him began to darken a bit, not even realizing that his emotions were causing his strongest ability to trigger a bit.

Soundwave stood when he heard Wavelength fly over him yelling at him. Once the young mech landed, Soundwave turned to face him, remaining quiet and patiently allowing Wavelength to rage and rail at him. He noted the shift in the light, though when Wavelength shoved him, he merely stood there. He waited calmly for a few moments, then tilted his head slightly. <~"Wavelength's observation, conclusion false."~> he offered simply over the secure comlink. <~"Permit explanation?"~> he asked, hoping to calm the volatile young mech. Soundwave was well aware of how a young mech's emotion protocols could very easily rage out of control, thus he remained passive and quiet, letting Wavelength vent and release his anger first, rather than attempt to override him and cause a counterproductive screaming match between them.

~"I just saw you do it! There's plenty of energon at home! How can you allow yourself to do that?"~ Wavelength yell in response, his hand going to his chest as he leaned towards Soundwave a bit ~"You told me they were just stories!"~ he shouted, going in to try to shove Soundwave once more. Wavelength felt quite betrayed and his emotions were beginning to get beyond his own control, most of the light around him gone now and his wings lifting though he didn't realize he was growing nearer to using the power he had vowed to never use again all because his emotions were so heightened. He stepped back again, fluid showing in his optics a bit ~"I just saw it!"~

Soundwave tilted his head a bit more. This was beginning to concern him. <~"Wavelength, do you wish me destroyed?"~> he asked, not wishing to speak out loud and only so Wavelength alone could hear, his hand gesturing towards Wavelength's arched wings. <~"What you saw is not what it appeared. I did not lie to you."~> he said, the deep electronic modulation suddenly gone, along with the command prompt protocol syntax he normally used. Instead his voice was soft, resonant, and clear, the kind of gently deep sonorous voice that could easily sing a young bot to sleep. It was very rare when he dropped all his masks and walls like this, and only with his Symbiotes and this young mech who had grown to be like the son he should have borne with Siren.

Soundwave's first comment caught Wavelength off guard, but when he wings were pointed to, he realized it and the light that had been building up around him shattered into those multicolored shards only to fade harmlessly away as he forced his wings back down ~"Then what? You better explain fast."~ Wavelength said, crossing his arms over his chest and looking at Soundwave, waiting for the explanation, the moment of realize what he was doing pulling him from his rage a little, not fully, but enough for him to try listening.

Soundwave nodded once, then looked to a nearby body, then to Wavelength. <~"I did not kill them, I was not involved in the battle, merely observing. Most are Decepticons, killed in battle. I come after, scan them to find any who might yet live and get them to the medical teams. Those who are truly gone, I download and preserve their knowledge, their memories. Then I draw out their Energon reserves. Their Sparks have gone to Primus, their chassis broken and incapable of sustaining them. Energon is growing more scarce, leaving so much within lifeless chassis wastes what little resources remains. The others, they see me take Sparks, believe I devour them as Megatron does; the truth is not Sparks, mere residual Energon for my family, to preserve us from starvation and death. I hide as much as I can, storing it, protecting all we have. The others, they squander their resources, wasting Energon."~> He shook his head, venting a sigh. <~"You are family to me now, and I would do anything to protect you and my symbiotes from them, even perpetuating the nightmare they believe me to be."~> He hoped that would be enough, and if necessary, he was willing to show him exactly what he was doing first hand and up close.

Wavelength gave a heavy sigh at that, his arms dropping from his chest <~"I wish you would have warned me, this is sort of a hard way to find out you know."~> Wavelength responded, seeming to have calmed down a little as he brought a hand up to wipe the liquid from his optics, though his hand brushed his fresh, and still slightly leeking, etching, making his ventilation system hitch just a bit, he had forgotten that new addition to his frame in all of the emotional upheaval. <~"If there's any other little habits like that, please let me know so I don't find out the hard way, alright?"~> Wavelength asked, looking to Soundwave.

Soundwave nodded in response and stepped forward, ever so gently touching Wavelength's cheek next to the new marking, picking up some of the leaking Energon on his fingertips. <~"I was unaware that you had come to find me. This confrontation was unexpected."~> he admitted softly. <~"I did not want to expose you to the nightmare horror they see of me, I did not wish to hurt you. Forgive me?"~> he asked, then added, <~"You are leaking..."~> a note of concern in his smooth voice.

<~"I can't stay in that canyon my whole life, plus you had been gone a while, I was getting worried."~> Wavelength admitted, looking to the side a bit <~"Please, no more secrets, OK? This family is all I have."~> he said, glancing around at the torn battlefield. <~"Are any able to be saved this time?"~> he asked though he gave just a slight, cringing smile when Soundwave mentioned that he was leaking <~"It's not that bad, an etching can cause that, It'll heal and it's what it'll leave behind when it heals that I'm after."~> he answered, looking to Soundwave <~"Like it?"~> he asked, a bit proud of his work.

Soundwave shook his head sadly in response to the first part. <~"All survivors escaped. These are all that remain."~> he answered. His expression did brighten a bit as the conversation turned to Wavelength's new marking, however. <~"It will be beautiful once healed."~> he agreed and lightly touched his forward sensory array to Wavelengths in a brief show of affection to let the young mech know that all was well between them despite the misunderstanding.
It was then that an unexpected visitor descended upon them, a young and belligerent Seeker landing nearby. ~"Fraternizing with an Autobot, Soundwave? Such treachery. I'm sure Megatron would be very interested to hear about this."~ he sneered and fired a missile at the pair.
Hearing the voice, Soundwave turned and glared at the flier. Without a word, Soundwave stepped in front of Wavelength and powered up his Sonic Cannons, destroying the missile at two thirds the distance between himself and the threat. He then stepped forward, orienting his formidable weaponry on the other mech while keeping himself between Wavelength and the Seeker. Soundwave didn't care that this mech was one of Starscream's Armada, he was not going to let anyone harm Wavelength.
