"Because I don't want you to hurt yourself." Knockout said, moving to kneel alongside where Soundwave had fallen and take his hand "It's only a sedative. It's what I'm about to do that I think you would protest to the most, but I need to show you, you have to understand." Knockout said, a hand moving to cradle Soundwave's neck, his wrist cable snaking out and searching for the port at the back of said neck "Sorry for not getting consent first." he said, trying to connect.

Soundwave struggled, trying to pull away, but his chassis wouldn't obey his commands, and the grogginess in his consciousness was growing, making it difficult to focus. He was barely aware of Knockout kneeling next to him, though he felt something lift his head. When Knockout's neural tendril found his cranial port, he drew in a sharp intake of air, though no sound came from him otherwise. Once within Soundwave's mind, everything seemed to shift. Knockout found himself standing at the edge of the Southern rim of the Western Sonic Canyon on Cybertron, that hypnotic interstellar song echoing up from the canyon itself. Nearby, he saw a manifestation of Soundwave, kneeling on the ground, cradling another bot in his arms. She was startlingly beautiful, yet she was not moving. It was then that Knockout could see the damage to her chassis and Soundwave lifted his head and let out a Spark breaking cry of anguish. The surprising thing was that Soundwave's optics matched his chassis lights, they were deep blue, not blood red. It was then that Knockout would realize he was looking at a memory and not truly Soundwave's internal self as the scenery shifted and Knockout found himself watching as Soundwave systematically hunted down a group of raiders, eviscerated them from the inside out, slowly, with his Cyber Tendrils, one by one, and each one he ensured they knew precisely why they were being put to death - for the murder of his beloved Siren. The scene shifted again as the last mech fell dead and Knockout could see Soundwave laying there tied down to some sort of table, an armature reaching towards his open chest with a welding head on the end. He laid his head back and as the welder began its work, he screamed in pain while the arm welded his laser core permanently shut. The scream faded and all around him gradually became nothing but the darkness of space as if adrift among the stars. And there Knockout could hear the undulating hum of countless stars and the ghostly resonance of the planets that orbited them. This was Soundwave's sanctuary, this was the only place where he could feel peace. There he found Soundwave's actual manifested consciousness curled up, drifting quietly as the Star Song resonated all around him, yet it seemed to bring him little comfort.

Knockout watched as the memory played around him, he couldn't blame Soundwave, really. If someone had harmed one that he cared for he would likely do similar to them, once it was over and he saw the curled up form of Soundwave, he moved towards it "Now I get it." Knockout said as he moved nearer "You've never been able to let go of the guilt, have you? Part of you still thinks you're to blame." he said, trying to reach out a hand to touch that curled up form. "You're afraid that it would happen again too, aren't you?" he added, giving a small sigh. "I can't tell you what to do, no matter how much I try to reassure you, if you've already made up your mind then nothing can help you, you would try to find a reason to turn me away anyways no matter what I told you, but I'm hoping that by doing this you'll at least realize that I won't harm you. The rest has to come in your own time." he said, hoping that he was getting through at least a bit.

Soundwave remained still as Knockout spoke, his hand on Soundwave's shoulder. It took several moments after he finished before the dark mech began to uncurl, though he didn't look directly at Knockout. "I see her ghost all around me, I hear her voice, her song calling me, but I can not answer, I can not reach her..." He brought his hands up to his chest, resting them there. "I am dying..." he finally admitted softly, slowly pulling his chest open to reveal his scarred laser core, welded shut so long ago. Inside his Spark seemed to pulse unsteadily, yet desperately trying to hold onto life as if something nearby was calling to it and it was trying so hard to respond, to reach towards that call. Soundwave vented softly. "Even now I hear her song... so close I could touch her... hold her to me... but she is not there..." The pain and turmoil was clear in his soft unmodulated voice, his true voice.

"If you still feel her, then how are you so sure that she's completely gone? No doubt you've heard of people being reborn, maybe that's why you can still feel her. Maybe she was born again and is out there waiting for you to find her. Think about it, normally when someone's gone that's it, every trace of them vanishes, but you can still feel her so she might still be out there. Knockout said, it made sense to him after all. He was beginning to realize now just much was hidden under that silent mask of Soundwave's but, considering, he wasn't completely surprised, there had to be softness in him to have raised Wavelength. "If you let yourself give up now, then how will you ever find her again if she was reborn? She had to have been since you still feel her. I'll step back and help you find her if you want."

Soundwave thought about that for a moment, and as his processor puzzled it out, his Spark seemed to thrum more urgently. "She is close... here... I feel her... I hear her... so close..." he responded haltingly, his voice trembling slightly. "But I can never bond... caged... I can not reach her..." he added mournfully, his fingertips tracing over the welds that had locked his laser core closed. He had done it to himself long ago out of anguish from losing Siren, and now with the possibility that she might be alive and close by, he was beginning to regret what he had done. "It can not be undone... too close, Spark would be damaged... I will die..." Soundwave was torn now, wishing he could be with her yet unable to because of what he had done. He wondered if this was his penance for his part in the war, to die in agony for want of his One... He lowered his head, his optics closing as his hand rested against his laser core.

Knockout moving to take a look at the laser core, was that accurate? Was the damage as bad as what he saw here or did Soundwave's pain cause it to manifest differently in the mindscape "I'm very good with precise work, I'm sure I could reverse the damage, I've had to change out the walls on laser cores already as it is, working close to the spark isn't too bad." Knockout explained "Maybe she can back as a human or something? That would be why she seems close. Thier world isn't that big after all."

It was hard to tell what was true to life damage to his laser core and what was amplified by the anguish and pain Soundwave felt. Within the mindscape, his laser core looked as if it had shattered and the shreds of it were welded back together again, leaving his Spark trapped within a jagged cage of twisted metal. Soundwave didn't pull away, though, merely moving his hand from within his chest so Knockout could see just how bad the damage seemed to be, or at least how horrific it felt to him. When Soundwave opened his optics to look at Knockout, they were a deep blue and full of pain. "Help... Me..." he pleaded softly, knowing that Wavelength trusted the small red medic, and if his son trusted him, then perhaps Soundwave could try to trust again, probably for the first time since Siren's death, aside from his love and trust in Wavelength.

"I will, I'll have to see how bad it is on your actual frame, you wouldn't have survived damage like this so I think that part of the severity here is mental." Knockout said, giving a small sigh "I need to get myself right before I try such an operation though, but I can see about repairing the damage. Will need to find a place to set up that's not in the base though. I don't want you so vulnerable in that base."

Soundwave nodded and the scenery around them shifted to reveal where they were really at, then Soundwave turned northeast and pointed, the landscape moving around them until it stopped at a river next to a cliff face, and hidden within that cliff face was an opening that could only be seen from one particular angle right in front of it. "Shielded lair..." Soundwave told him, one of many Soundwave had constructed over the decades he had been on or around Earth. With the visual of the location also came the precise coordinates, which Knockout easily picked up.

Knockout took mental note of the location, giving a nod "Alright, I'm going to disconnect now and get you woken up so we can move there because there's no way I can carry you by myself." Knockout said, placing a hand on Soundwave's shoulder "Things will be alright, I'll help you find her once this damage is repaired."

Soundwave nodded at that and closed his chest, waiting for Knockout to go. Outwardly he merely laid there, quietly resting in stasis. Knockout could hear Soundwave's Spark thrumming in his chest, sitting so close next to him. Once Knockout woke him again, the dark mech looked up at him, his optics that same startlingly deep blue, their true color. "Why help the monster all others hate and fear?" he asked, genuinely curious as to Knockout's motives behind all of this. Was it because he had helped Knockout and felt a debt to be paid? That was Soundwave's line of reasoning at least.

"Because, even if I can't have you, there's no reason why I shouldn't see to it that you're happy." Knockout simply said, moving to stand and offering a hand to Soundwave "Besides, any idea how crushed Wavelength would be if I didn't help you even though I have the means to?"

Soundwave nodded at that, accepting both the answer and the help up. He looked towards his lair, then looked at Knockout's smaller form, seeming to consider something. He then stepped up to Knockout, moving behind him, then wrapping his arms around the smaller mech and lifting him up off the ground before kicking on his own engines and taking to the air, Knockout held firmly against him. It didn't take long for Soundwave to cover the five kilometers distance to his hidden lair, setting down easily on the rocky shoreline of the river before letting Knockout go and stepping towards the entrance to his lair.
