RPer: Suburban Wulf (Chasm)
Character Type: Permanent
Name: Vortex
Nickname: ’Tex (approved for use by Swindle only!)
Gender Identity: Mech
Approximate Age: Human equivalent of 38.
Alliance: Decepticons; Combaticons.
Function/Job: Combaticon Information collector; specialty is interrogation
Height: 30 Feet
Approximate Mass: 2.5 Metric Tons
Type of Cybertronian: Normal Cybertronian
Personality: Vortex is both a stable and unstable bot. He does not have a permanent personality fix on one thing, though he can become slightly insane while performing aerial stunts, caring very little about what is going on around him. His favorite maneuvers seem to defy every law of helicopter flight physics, performing rolls, dives, and climbs that human pilots would never dream of trying. The one considered the most dangerous is when he cuts all power to his tail rotor, letting himself spin towards the ground out of control
When interrogating, he focuses completely on the job, taking great enjoyment out of it, sometimes dragging sessions on for hours, not even trying to get any information. Out of everyone in the gestalt, Vortex gets along best with Swindle.
Appearance: Vortex is a dark grey SH-2 Seasprite helicopter. In robot mode, he stands approximately 30 feet tall. His rotors fold behind his back when not in use, but have a tendancy to fan out and spin when he gets excited. His face is covered by a battle mask and a red visor. Under his visor, he has mis-matched optics. His left optic is red while his right optic is blue. The area around the blue optic is slightly scarred, indicating that it was a replacement optic.
Alt Mode:
Holoform/Human Form: Vortex’s holoform goes by the name Vlad, and wears a standard helicopter flight suit. His flight helmet has a red visor, and a scarf is normally wrapped around his neck, covering the lower portion of his face. Underneath his visor, his eyes are red and blue, the left being red and the right being blue.
Weapons: Weapons include his rotor blades (they can be detached singly for use as swords), his tail rotor, a hand-held semi-automatic glue gun (mounted under cabin in alt-mode), and in alt mode only he has twin machine guns mounted on the underside of his tail, as well as a tractor beam that fires from the cargo bay, though he finds it more fun not to use it.
Abilities: Can merge with his Combaticon brothers to form Bruticus.
Strengths: Vortex’s strength would be his extensive knowledge about the art of interrogation. His methods range and vary, from simple physical torture with his knives, to locking a prisoner in his alt-mode’s cargo bay and performing the craziest helicopter stunts ever to exist in quick succession (and how!), until they begin screaming for the ground, promising to give all the information asked of them. His interrogation knowledge also gives him a small amount of medical knowledge, specifically which components do what, and how that can be used to help gather information.
Weaknesses: Being a flyer, Vortex has an immense fear of being trapped underground. Even being in a building for long periods of time can make him uneasy, if there is no opening to the sky. Being in such an area for extreme amounts of time can make Vortex panicky and unpredictable. Being a helicopter, his rotors are a sensitive area, specifically the connections between the rotors and his body.
Family: Creators; unknown. Gestalt Brothers; Onslaught (gestalt leader), Brawl, Blast Off, Swindle, and Bruticus (combined form).
History: Vortex started out as a standard Decepticon interrogator, learning a decent bit of the medic job as well. He does not talk about the schooling he went through, though he makes a point to avoid any kind of power-point style presentation. Any attempts to ask him about the class or his avoidance of presentations are not advised, as they can result in a change of topic at best, and massive amounts of pain at worst.
Under the orders of a higher-up, Vortex was one of five Decepticons reformatted into the Combaticon gestalt. At first, none of them got along, though Onslaught was able to keep them from killing each other. The worst was between Vortex and Swindle. When they discovered that they would have to work with each other, neither of them were happy. Exchanges of insults turned into exchanges in ammunition, and ended when Vortex pulled Swindle into his cargo bay to give one of his famous “interrogation rides,” and Swindle fired off every weapon in his arsenal. After crashing into the ground, both Vortex and Swindle received a berating for their actions from Onslaught. Oddly enough, the two have been inseparable ever since, becoming the closest out of the gestalt.
After the Combaticons were reformatted, they were sent as part of the force that was to capture the Archetype project. Swindle and Vortex pursued Arc after he was prematurely brought online, though Arc’s invisibility allowed him to get away, leaving Swindle and Vortex to explain how they let them slip away.
Recently, Onslaught ordered both Vortex and Swindle to go to Earth to help the Decepticons there, promising that the rest of the gestalt will follow as soon as they are able to.
Additional Info: Vortex was part of an interrogation class taught by Lengthwise. The exact class he graduated with made it through with only half of its members. Further investigation found what was left of the frames of the other half of the class. Neither Lengthwise nor any of the remaining students were willing to answer questions about what happened.
