((I'm sorry. I don't have a picture.))
Rper: Laula
Character type: permanent OC
Name: Jessica Gwyneth Ross
Nicknames: Jess, Gwen, American Flag
Sex/Gender Identity: Female
Age: 15
Alliance: Autobots
Job: Student
Height: 5'
Weight: 104.8 lbs
Personality: Jessica Gwyneth Ross appears to be a happy go-lucky girl, most of the time. Just this side of annoyingly-hyper happy, and she usually crosses that line. She always seems to be looking for the bright side of just about everything and focuses on keeping other people's happiness as well.
Underneath it all, however, she is terrified. Ruled by fear, she can't be in enclosed spaces anymore. She hates it and tries to work through it, but only seems to be taking one step forward before getting thrown through a wall. Scarred for life, both inside and out, Jessica is unsure of how to continue with her life.
In comparison to her brother and father, she actually is pretty patient, but if she's in pain, she gets snappy, as shown in her interaction with Whiplash where she also throws in insults that may or may not be noticed.
Appearance: Most of the time, Jessica looks like a pale, freckled, red-head with bright blue eyes...that sits in a wheelchair. However, recently people have been realizing...she's still tiny even when standing up.
All bones and fine muscle, she has high cheekbones, with scars running down the right side, staring at right in front of her ear, just missing her eye, and scraping down to her chin, cutting across her lips a bit. She usually has her coppery-red hair in a high ponytail. She wears dark colors, but not black. She doesn't like wearing black. When she is wearing her braces, while leaning on crutches heavily, she has to wear clothes made to cover her hip high braces.
She looks a bit off center whenever she is sitting because, despite years of physical therapy, she still hasn't built her muscle tone in her legs back up.
Under her clothes, her legs are covered in scars, along with both of her lower arms and her right side. She also has some scaring on the back of her hands.
Preferred Vehicle: anything that is open to the sky
Preferred Weapons: Handguns, her tazer, and her pepper-spray.
Abilities: She can sing and has perfect pitch, along with heightened hearing. She can hear above normal people. She also has some good accuracy with her weapons of choice, because her daddy refused to let his baby girl be defenseless. And she knows sign language and how to read lips due to sometimes missing things spoken by men.
Strengths: She can aim, even when half-blinded by pain. She can hear above normal human hearing, so she can catch things that most other people won't. If one can consider her singing and remembering pitches perfectly a strength, she has that as well. She knows sign language and how to read lips, so if someone was talking about a plan in a crowded restaurant, she would probably catch it.
Weaknesses: She is stuck if she can't get somewhere on her wheelchair. She's not strong enough yet to walk far and would probably further injury herself dragging herself from danger. She's practically trapped to her wheelchair. She is claustrophobic and will freak out in small, enclosed, spaces, getting into a flashback, even if she's not in a car. Also, higher pitches hurt and she has trouble hearing lower tones.
Meaning that talking to Optimus or anyone else who talks lowly...is going to be hard. Like most men, which most of those who work with the Autobots are men.
Family: Samuel Ross, father, a Marine and fiercely protective of his baby girl.
Linda Ross, mother, and a woman who loves to be the stay at home mother.
Elliot Ross, older brother and Army Ranger, much to his father's annoyance.
History: Jessica was always a bright girl and talented in picking up pitches and singing. She was no Jackie Evancho, but she was good at it. Her dad was proud, even as he was teaching her, nicely, how to do some hand-to-hand, like he had with her older brother, Elliot, when he was younger. He was highly protective of both of his children, who had about eight years separating them in age, and was happy that they were happy, for the most part.
While Jessica knew that her dad was busy, and had a vague understanding that it was very important. However, she missed him greatly when he was gone. Her brother, Elliot, despite initially being jealous, warmed up to her and was happy to spend time with her. Everything would have gone on; Elliot joined the Army instead of the Marines, specifically choosing to become a Ranger if he could, and Jessica was talking about possibly majoring in Music, at age ten.
Everything probably would have continued like this if there hadn't been a rainy night, a driver in a hurry, and breaks not working fast enough to stop. Bad enough by itself, but in a combination, practically fatal. And it almost was. A black car crashed into their blue car, on the back passenger side.
The car collapsed down on Jessica, leaving scars across most of her body and all across her psyche. It was lucky it didn't crush her completely, but it severely damaged her ribs, breaking two, and completely wrecked her legs. No one is sure how she survived, and, much to the worried horror of the EMTs and firefighters with the Jaws of Life, stayed conscious.
When she awoke, a month later from a medical induced coma, it was expected she would never walk again due to the damage done to her legs. However, Jessica, nor her family, refused to believe that. Once she was cleared for physical therapy, they began to help her.
While Samuel and Elliot couldn't be there often, Samuel soon found himself in a 'stable' job (he wasn't moving anymore) and was able to stay around more often. It took four years before she recovered enough to stand, with braces and help and another six months before she took her first step, again.
Somehow, her father and brother work together without getting into snippy fights about Marines vs. Rangers.
Before all of that, however, the nightmares started. Nightmares and the claustrophobia and the panic attacks. The way she would become panicked when having to go near a blue car, or a black one for that matter. Even with seeing a psychiatrist hasn't helped.
And through it all, they helped their baby girl adjust. They helped her to relearn how to defend herself from humans, at least, and worked to help her adjust to a new life; one that was filled with psychological and physical pain.
And the love and support of her family was the only thing that hadn't changed between the four.
They would survive.
Additional information: Jessica often has the greatest deadpan voice when she's trying not to laugh hysterically. They are also working on getting her a service dog that would be large enough, healthy enough, and strong enough to help Jessica up should she fall and, in general, help her out so she can have more independence. In the meantime, she is at home.
And is home schooled, only going to the school to take tests.
Custom title: Smiling Child
RP Sample:
Jessica half leaned out of the car, taking deep breaths and pretending that she wasn't about to go into a flashback. Her fingers tensed against the metal and she resisted the urge to scream, scramble, beg to be let out. She just took a deeper breath, remembering to breathe, even when she felt as if her ribcage was being crushed all over. "I can't do this," she admitted and shoved open the car door, forcing her way out as she tried to get her braced legs to work with her.
She got to her wheelchair, panting, and exhausted. She stared at the car, same type and model as the car that had taken everything but her voice and her mother from her. She closed her eyes and gripped at her hair, close to tears.
Five years ago or not, it still ruled her life.
And she hated it.
She forced on a smile when she heard her brother call and turned to face him pretending she wasn't hearing the faint crunching of metal.
