Barricade allowed himself a small smile as the teams fought through the ambushes. It looked like there wasn't going to be any major incidents. He knew he'd thought it too soon when Torque freaked out as one of his team went down. <~"Torque! Stand down!"~> Barricade snarled through the comms. When Torque's wild, blind firing took down another of his team, Barricade decided it was time to step in.
The rifle came up, firing at the drones as he made his way towards Torque. As he got closer, one of Torque's shots clipped his side, and Barricade's optics narrowed. Enough was enough. With barely a thought, the disk on his left forearm popped open, revealing an array of criss-crossing, razer-sharp blades between two halves of the disk. He brought the arm the flail was attached to back a bit, then flicked it forward, the flail releasing from its housing and sent spinning at Torque, the blades blurring together as they spun faster than the optic could track.

Ironhide let out a very irritated snort when he heard Torque scream in fear, and the tell-tale sound of panic fire. ~"Torque, ya slaggin glitch!"~ he bellowed and spun up his heavy cannons, charging in towards Torque's group, firing at the drones that were attacking them trying to free them up so they could get their damaged companions out of harms way.
Torque continued firing, but caught the spinning blades across his weapon arm and he shrieked, turning on the source of the pain, lashing out at the bladed disk like a half mad Scraplet. His hand caught the chain and yanked it away from himself even as the blades severed his other arm at the elbow. As he pulled on the chain, a powerful negative charge seemed to reach out of Torque and straight up the chain towards Barricade, an instinctive and unfocused attack straight at Barricade.
But with Ironhide busy trying to save the ones who were down, he was too far away to intervene between Barricade and Torque, not knowing what was happening or what either of them would do in such a volatile situation that could literally mean life or death for any of them. Thankfully the other three five mech teams were handling their targets better, and the companion team to Torque's group circled around to where Ironhide was fighting to help two badly outnumbered mechs desperately trying to save their fallen companions while Barricade dealt with the panicked Torque.

Barricade growled when Torque grabbed the chain of his weapon, which turned into a high-pitched snarl of pain when the charge hit his frame. His anger and rage broke out fully at that point, and he yanked his left arm back to bring the flail back, the chain set to retract. He brought his rifle up in his right hand and fired a couple shots at Torque, though they didn't have the aim or support they would normally have had Barricade had his left hand to use as well.

The shots hit Torque hard, one in the left shoulder, forcing him to let go of the chain, and in the lower left torso. He let out a cry of pain and fell back, grabbing the first thing he could find and threw it at his attacker, not realizing who it was.
Ironhide had finally gotten to the hard pressed mechs and got them freed up so they could get themselves and their damaged companions to safety just as the other half of their ground team arrived to help them. Hearing the shrieks of pain coming from Barricade and Torque, he turned, looking for them, though because of the immediate terrain, he couldn't see them. ~"Aw slag it all..."~ he growled and headed towards the sound of pain he heard, hoping to separate them before someone got to badly hurt.

Barricade gave the chain one last solid yank to bring it back to its housing, hissing as the blades slashed into his own armor before the weapon reattached itself, and charged at Torque, ducking the piece of scrap the younger mech threw at him. When he was within close-combat range, his flail responded to commands to spin rapidly, and he brought his arm down, flail first, at Torque's chest and abdomen, fully intending to "gut" the mech, all thoughts of reason having fled from his processor.

Torque screeched in agony as the blades tore into his chassis, kicking out at his attacker trying desperately to get away, his intact arm flailing at Barricade trying to grab at what was causing him so much pain only to get his hand shredded for his trouble. Vital fluids, Energon, and scraps of metal, tubes, and bits of neural threads flew up and gushed out of the growing gash in his torso.
Ironhide heard the increase in the urgency of the screams and realized it wasn't Barricade who was crying out in pain and terror. Dread filled him and he bolted forward, hoping to stop his friend from murdering Torque. ~"BARRICADE!"~ he yelled as he came rushing around the debris mound, horrified at the sight before him, his beloved companion standing over Torque, brutally tearing the prone mech apart.
The screams and convulsions had become reflexive as Barricade tore into him. Ironhide had no choice, and he charged, reaching out and grabbing Barricade, shoving him away from Torque hoping he got to them in time to save Torque before Barricade killed him, but doesn't realize he was too late, the young mech laying there, his laser core torn open in his chest, his Spark flickering before going out entirely, but Ironhide had no time to see, no time to assess anything as he looked at Barricade almost pleadingly.

When Ironhide grabbed Barricade to pull him away, Barricade reacted, running purely on instinct and rage, in a knee-jerk fashion. His flail loosened in its housing, and he sent it flying at the one who'd grabbed him, only realizing after the impact who it was. His optics, once bright and burning with rage, widened in shock and horror at the realization of what he'd done. The blades were merciless, tearing into Ironhide's thick armor as though it were nothing, embedding themselves into the older mech's chest. Barricade was motionless for a moment, stunned and in shock at the fact that he'd just attacked, and possibly killed, his closest friend. Not knowing what else to do, he gave a yank on the chain to bring the weapon, his weapon, the one he'd been so excited to show Ironhide, back to his arm where it folded up, looking completely harmless, and took off. He transformed into his alt mode and drove as fast as he could. He'd killed his mentor, friend, and potential future lover, and his fear of the authorities had kicked in, driving him out of Iacon, out of the haven that had become his home after being plucked off the streets. Not, he was headed back to those very streets, the slum known as Kaon. He'd been hatched there, and now, he was certain, he would offline there, running until the last day to escape punishment for his crime.

Ironhide let out a bellow of agony as the flail tore into his chest. The attack had been unexpected, and as the weapon was pulled free of his torn chassis, he clutched at the gaping wound that had exposed his laser core, looking at Barricade with an expression of shock and pain on his face, his optics asking why, not understanding why the one he had taken in, the young mech he loved, had suddenly attacked him. ~"Barricade... why?..."~ he managed to murmur as he collapsed onto his back. As Barricade stood there looking at him, Ironhide's optics flickered and went dark, his frame falling limp and lifeless where he lay.
When he woke up, he let out a cry of shock and pain, the Training base medics rushing to his side to hold him down. It takes a few moments of struggling before Ironhide finally gave in, letting out a groan when he finally laid back again. ~"Barricade..."~ he murmured questioningly, wanting to know where his treasured friend, his only family, his fledgling lover, had gone.
The medics all exchange glances, then one speaks up. ~"He's gone, Ironhide."~ he responded with a tone of regret in his voice.
Ironhide looked at him, rising fear gripping his Spark. ~"No, he ain't dead, he can't be..."~ he said urgently, fighting to get up and forcing the medics to hold him down again.
~"No, Ironhide, he's alive! He left, vanished to the streets! He killed Torque and if we hadn't gotten to you when we did, he would have killed you too!"~ the lead medic called out to him, trying to explain.
He groaned heavily. ~"Yer wrong, he'd never hurt me..."~ he protested, but the medics were persistent.
~"Ironhide, I know you took him off the streets of Kaon and brought him here. I know you got close to him, even taking him for a lover."~ the lead medic glanced at the others then. Most of the staff and instructors knew that Ironhide and Barricade had gotten very close, the younger mech even moving in with the burly combat instructor, but no one could have been prepared for Barricade's betrayal, especially Ironhide himself. ~"He savagely murdered Torque and brutally attacked you. Your laser core was exposed and almost breached. Ironhide, he deliberately attacked and tried to murder you. After all you did for him, he betrayed you."~ he told Ironhide apologetically, regretting being the one to have to tell Ironhide the truth, or at least as far as anyone knew.
All Ironhide could do was lay there, his optics closed, shaking in Spark felt agony before he let out a scream of denial, the pain of betrayal slowly turning to rage, hardening his Spark as his Energon chilling howl set the medics back on their peddes, fearful of what the burly mech would do.
He remained in the medic's care for nearly two Mega-Cycles before he simply could not stand the confines of the med bay any longer and took off, transforming and driving hard for Kaon, the only home Barricade had known before Ironhide had found him, and the only place the young mech was likely to go. So Ironhide went there to search for Barricade, to learn the truth if he could, though the pain of betrayal and anguish of loss of the one he had grown to love and trust so deeply stung him to his core, and the agony and rage seemed to radiate off him, sending any locals scurrying for cover as he came through Kaon's streets and alley ways, searching for Barricade.

Barricade had re adapted well to life on the streets, even using the training he'd received under Ironhide to help. He didn't go back to his old gangs, however. If bots from Iacon were going to follow him here, and try to take him back, he didn't want to involve his old friends. So, he kept to himself, becoming a loner. He had more of a survival chance than the others, at this point. In addition to his training, he still had his weapon, which was a lot more than the rest of the street gangs had.
One Cycle, while he was making his way through Kaon after scoring himself some energon, his optics spotted the form of a mech he had thought died over two Mega-Cycles ago. For a moment, he froze, his optics meeting Ironhide's. He thought about going to meet Ironhide, trying to explain that he hadn't meant to hurt him. Unfortunately, panic took root instead, and he fled, running into the alleys that had sheltered him his whole early life, and that he'd grown to know like the back of his hand.

Ironhide spotted Barricade and started towards him, a glimmer of hope that maybe the others had been wrong, that it had all been a mistake. But the look of shock he saw cross the young mech's features then made him pause, and Ironhide lifted one hand, thinking to call out to him, hoping he would just come back to him. But before he could call out, Barricade turned and fled, abandoning Ironhide again. He felt his Spark crack and he ran forward, thinking to follow him, perhaps catch him again like he had done before. ~"BARRICADE!"~ he bellowed loudly, hoping to get him to stop. But Barricade slipped away into the dark streets and vanished. Ironhide finally slowed, then stopped, realizing what the medics and other instructors had said was true, that Barricade deliberately attacked and tried to murder him, then abandoned him to die. All they had shared, the love they had given each other, the promises they had made; from Barricade's side, it had all been a lie. Barricade had used him, then left him to die.
As Ironhide felt his Spark crushed within his own chest, he let out a scream of rage and anguish, unloading round after round from his cannons into the surrounding structures, collapsing the abandoned buildings around him as he unleashed all his pain into those decaying buildings, leveling them to rubble. If anyone was in the area, they fled for their lives in the wake of such unleashed fury, and Ironhide's fearsome reputation grew as a result. Once he had leveled the immediate structures, he transformed, driving hard and fast over the ruined terrain and through the brutal streets of Kaon. He never found Barricade again, though he searched, the betrayal complete, turning into blind rage and hatred for what had been done to him. He was determined to hunt Barricade down, and the longer the younger mech evaded him, the more his anger grew, consuming all that once was between them, making reconciliation impossible. Nearly a full Deca-Cycle went by before Ironhide finally heeded the call back to Iacon, leaving Kaon and his search for the one who betrayed and tried to murder him. But he swore inwardly that he would be back, that he would find Barricade, and he would kill him.
Whispers on Kaon's dark streets spoke of a powerfully built, black armored mech with two heavy cannons mounted on his arms, hunting for one called Barricade with murderous intent. A dark betrayal that unleashed a monster in their midst. When the savage mech finally left Kaon, they wondered if he had found the one he was looking for, or if he would come back. The burly Autobot had destroyed several structures in his search, his rage very clear to any who witnessed it, and even the hardest street mech kept their distance for fear of becoming the enraged black mech's next target. Those who had witnessed the big bot's fury prayed to Primus he would never return to Kaon's streets.

All Barricade could do was avoid and hide from Ironhide as the black mech searched for him. He'd heard Ironhide's scream of rage, as well as the sounds of cannon fire, and felt his Spark sink to the bottom of his laser core. Ironhide thought that his attack had been deliberate, Barricade was sure of it, and he would never forgive him.
For nearly a full Deca-Cycle, Barricade ran and hid, knowing the maze of streets far better than his former mentor. As the time passed, he became more and more sure of the fact that Ironhide hated him, despite what they had shared, and what they had both hoped they could become. All that seemed to matter to the old mech was hunting Barricade down, and Barricade doubted that he would listen to reason, that it was only an accident. He became "Runner" once more, not giving the name he'd long accepted as his designation for fear that the natives of Kaon would try to hand him over to Ironhide to get the "black monster," as they'd begun calling him, to leave.
There would come a Cycle, in the not-so-distant future, where Megatron, the Lord High Protector of Cybertron, would seem to go mad. A new faction would arise under his command, and a number of mechs across Cybertron would rise to join him. One of them was a tri-colored grounder with a seemingly harmless disk attached to his left forearm. When asked for his designation, his response was ~"Barricade."~
