Keith began to walk around one bend in the small beach of the lake, walking around and/or climbing over boulders and logs that had washed up from the brief tides that cycled through daily. God, it'd been forever since he got out and walked like this. It was kind of sad. He often saw himself as a hermit, staying inside far too much because of his interests at the computer or drawing pad. He stretched his arms up a bit as he paused to stand on a rock, looking around. With the sun slightly lower in the horizon now, he admired how the sunlight's rays leaked through the trees and clouds and onto the water. The ray's warmth were...comforting, and steady.
Taking out his smartphone, he rotated it horizontally and captured a photo before him at about eleven o'clock where the clouds showed the thickest rays and light over the lake; he then turned towards EDI to see that the rays of light still beamed down decently over the lake through the clouds. Vapor also rose up from the water from the heat. He shifted the camera horizontally and pressed the button again to put EDI in the frame. The area was quite pristine and picturesque to him, and it was worth capturing before moving on. ESPECIALLY with EDI here.
Hopping down from the rock, he tucked away his phone and continued merrily.

If EDI could smile as he watched his beloved creator, he would have. He followed at a careful distance behind Keith so as to not risk accidental harm to him. He regarded Keith curiously as he pulled out the phone, then realized he used it to capture a photograph of the area. When he turned and angled the phone in EDI's direction, the AI lifted his hand and shyly waved to Keith as if to give his father a permanent hello he could keep with him even when EDI could not physically be with Keith. He stepped forward then as Keith put the phone away, following him as he continued along the edge of the lake. EDI regarded the lake thoughtfully and paused, wondering if perhaps he could test his form at least on a small level. He then carefully stepped up to the water's edge, then slowly reached out with one foot, just dipping his toes in the water experimentally to see what would happen before slowly sinking his entire foot in the water.

Keith paused in his steps when he didn't hear EDI moving behind him. "You may not want to get too deep, you were not built to be submerged in water - at least for long." Keith advised. He would obviously prefer that EDI could leave the area able to fly. Better to be safe than sorry after all, he didn't want the water to risk zapping his wiring which might in turn cause processor core damage as the lightning had caused before....

EDI seemed to turn towards Keith for a moment, taking in his warning and taking heed. He then carefully pulled his foot from the water and stepped back from the water's edge to stand on firm dry land. "Acknowledged, Doctor Orbit. I will be careful." he replied, then turned to follow his creator once again. He was happy to be able to spend this quiet time with Keith, to learn from him this way. He wanted to learn, wanted to grow, wanted Keith to be proud of him. "I think I am beginning to like walking, father. It is calm, quiet, peaceful." he reasoned out loud, his voice taking on a thoughtful tone as he spoke.

"Walking is great. Being outside in general is very healthy. For anyone. Leave one inside for too long and they start feeling caged. Being inside is not natural for humans. It would seem to make sense that you might have that interest in common with us. All aircraft must return to the ground too, but there is no reason to fear the skies, of course. I really should get outside more." Keith replied. Perhaps since EDI was enjoying the walk, they could do a full lap around the lake before leaving or moving onto a different one. Keith wouldn't mind that at all, he knew he needed to get out more and being inside too much wore him down - specifically, it affected his mood sometimes.

EDI looked to his creator with deep appreciation and gratitude. Their conversations were always honest and candid, which EDI liked about Keith. Keith never lied to him like other humans had, most notably his previous commander who had later shot himself. EDI could not understand that action, there was no logical purpose in it. What EDI had done in North Korea could be seen in a similar light, except that EDI had done it as a last resort when his squad mates were threatened and EDI had nothing left in his weapons inventory, so he used his own airframe as a weapon to destroy the enemy threat and allow Ben and Kara to escape. It was sacrifice, not suicide, and EDI had survived it, allowing Keith to rebuild him again. "Yes, it is good to be outside. You should be outside more, you should fly with me more, now that I am rebuilt and operational again." he suggested, hoping Keith would agree and choose to be with EDI more instead of always being so far away in Seattle while EDI was half way around the world under orders to destroy whatever target had been given to him. No, this time EDI wanted to remain with his creator and eventually be reunited with Ben and Kara, to fly with them again. For now, he enjoyed a simple walk around the edge of the lake with his creator, his father. Simply being with Keith seemed to calm his anxiety and intense urge to be airborne.

Keith smiled, glancing back at EDI again. "Yes, I know I should, for my own health. I know we can arrange that, EDI. For both our sakes." he continued along, wondering where they should go next, and how far they should go. How far could they get before they got called back to the base? "Is there anywhere in particular you would like to see next?" he asked, giving EDI the chance to think about it before they completed a lap around this particular lake.

EDI thought about it for a few minutes, considering the options. Where could he and Keith go together that would be interesting for both of them. "Perhaps something to test my maneuverability at speed, a canyon?" he asked thoughtfully, hoping Keith would agree. He wanted to make his creator proud of him, and he wanted to make his father happy. The only way he knew to do that was to prove himself in the air, to show what he could do.

"I do agree that would be a superb idea." Keith knew EDI had supreme maneuverability given the situations he'd faced before he was offline, flying through the mountain pass before Henry's accident. "I know you'll do well, but it couldn't hurt, and I know it would be fun for both of us. Didn't have a chance to fly with you before I rebuilt you after all." he added in acknowledgement. "Take your time though, we can leave this area whenever you wish."

EDI regarded Keith thoughtfully for a few moments as they continued walking along the lake edge. He wanted to be in the air, to feel the sky wide open around him again and Keith in his cockpit. He found that he really liked that feeling, a warm body cradled within him, protected, feeling Keith's heartbeat pounding in excitement as EDI raced through the air. Oh yes, he liked that sensation very much indeed. "I would like to fly." he finally said to his creator and transformed himself back to his stealth airframe, opening his cockpit to allow Keith to climb in again.

"And fly you will," Keith assured EDI with a proud tone in his vioce. "Onward, take as much time as you need. It would be appreciated if you're a little gentle with the maneuvers though, it's been a long time since I've flown - not sure how many G's I can handle. " Keith was ready to get back in the air and continue focusing on their main objective. He truly hoped they would be able to reunite with EDI's former squad, he knew it would make EDI happy, and that was all Keith wanted to see now.

"I will fly carefully, father." EDI promised and closed his cockpit securely before lifting off and heading Westward towards the Grand Canyon. He could feel Keith's heart beat elevate as they flew and if EDI could smile, he would. He cherished his creator and would do anything to protect him, a fact EDI made very clear indeed. He flew casually for now, but once the canyon came into view, that would change drastically. He just hoped that Keith would enjoy the flight and enjoy seeing his creation excel in his abilities.

"Thank you, it is much appreciated." Keith replied contently, pleased with EDI's progress. It was all going exactly as planned, he just hoped that they would continue to bond and remain as close as they were becoming. He didn't want that distant connection he had with EDI before. He regretted acting that way for sure, trying to shut EDI out so he could stay focused on the trio he worked with directly, rather than giving him more chances to expand his interactions and knowledge through a father figure that deep down truly did care.
So he looked forward to the duration of this stage of this flight, and enjoyed every bit of it.

EDI descended into the canyon and flew low over the water, zig zagging his way along the twists and turns if the river, though he didn't turn to hard or fly too fast, worried about Keith. Gradually his confidence grew and he slowly picked up speed, reveling in the freedom of being able to fly again, even doing full on barrel rolls periodically as he flew. He maintained precise control of his maneuvers, calculating speed and distance to the last tick, his thought processes and calculations scrolling by on the holographic HUD for Keith to view. He wanted his creator to be proud of him, wanted him to see what EDI could do within the limits of human endurance. Later, with Keith monitoring remotely, EDI knew he would show his father the limits of his abilities and then some.

Though things were going well as the day progressed, Keith took precautions in the back of his mind. Conditions and outside forces could change at any time, and he had to be ready for anything. He just hoped that they could avoid weather related the accidents such as the ones that caused his malfunction. If such did happen in the un-forseeable future, Keith would do everything in his power to get EDI taken care of ASAP. EDI was his pride and joy and he wouldn't give up their connection for anything.
He couldn't stay quite for long. "Just be sure to take your time with new places, EDI. The more accidents we avoid, the better I'll feel."
