((Augusta, Maine, 11:30 AM)) ((September 22nd, 2027)) "Hey! Come back with those!" The furious owner of a nearby tool shop ran out onto the street, cussing and shaking his fist. A ten-year-old boy ran away from him and straight into the park, carrying his stolen goods; a few nuts and bolts. And as soon as he was out of the sight of the owner, he slowed to a normal walking pace. He didn't understand why the owner was mad. There were plenty more nuts and bolts in his shop. He'd only stolen a few. He always made sure that there were plenty of what he stole left for other people to buy. Perhaps what he'd done was wrong. But he would use them for a good cause. He hoped. Jared sighed as he leaned against a nearby tree and glanced at the 3x5 photo he'd found in his deceased mother's house. It was a picture of what he remembered as her, and what he figured to be his father; a man who looked similar to himself. He must be his father. And hopefully, one day, Jared would find him.

A purple and gold Shelby Cobra sat parked on the side of the street by the park, the soft sound of a humming engine indicating that the vehicle was still running. He was watching the area, enjoying a bit of time off to explore more of the planet that he was learning to call home. A bit of ruckus caught his attention, and he spotted a small boy running across the street. "I wonder what he's up to..." His holoform, a young man with golden blonde hair and dark blue-violet eyes, came to life in his driver's seat. He made a show of opening the door to get out, and walked in the direction he'd seen the boy run. He spotted the boy sitting under a tree, and watched him for a moment before slowly approaching. "Hello." He greeted, stopping at a distance that he figured wouldn't be intimidating or threatening.

Jared jumped slightly, having not expected any voice to be talking to him. Usually he was ignored, what with everyone probably expecting him to be running after his parents anyway. Some people were just plain ignorant. He studied the person before him for a few moments. He had an odd eye color, but it suited him. At least he didn't look mean. But it could all be a trick; maybe this was an undercover cop or something. Had the shopkeeper gotten him into trouble already? "Um... Hi." He managed, not at all certain of what to say. He hadn't had a conversation with anyone in a while, definitely not a stranger. Still, the only valuable thing he had was his photo, and he was pretty sure this man didn't want to steal it. Hopefully.

"Sorry. I didn't mean to startle you." Chasm apologized. "I just noticed you running across the street, and I didn't know if you needed any kind of help." He really wasn't completely sure why he went to chat with the boy. Perhaps it was him trying to understand more of the planet. "My name's Chad, by the way." He offered his hand out in greeting.

Well, the man - or Chad, as he'd called himself - seemed nice enough. Maybe it wouldn't hurt to return the kindness. Jared smiled and shook his head. "I'm alright, thanks. Just had to, uh, get something from the store." That was sort of the truth, wasn't it? He eyed the hand with mild suspicion for a split second before he took it and shook it. "I'm Jared. Nice to meet you." He replied. Maybe, just maybe, he'd found the person that might just be kind enough to help him find his father. It wasn't likely that the man would be able to identify him by the picture, but who knew, maybe they could find a phonebook or something and start there. There had to be somebody who knew the man in his photo. It was just a matter of finding them.

"Nice to meet you too, Jared." Chad replied with a smile. "And are you making something? I notice that you were leaving a hardware store." He inquired, being sure to not say anything about seeing him running from the store, or the ruckus that he'd heard. "I know someone who's always tinkering with things, making things, though they often explode in his face."

Jared's eyes seemed to light up in excitement. Someone else shared his love of inventing? That sounded a lot like him, too. "Yeah, I'm working on a little project of sorts. Whoever your friend is sounds a lot like me; my work doesn't always end up successful either." He admitted, glad that the conversation so far hadn't veered anywhere near who his parents were. That would be hard to explain, what with his deceased mother and his missing father. Still, there was the hope that this man might have at least some answers. Maybe he knew someone else who might know his father. Or maybe he was just getting his hopes too high.

Chad smiled. "Yeah...Jack means well a lot of the time, but random explosions can be very, very surprising, and unnerving. Sometimes, they'll make me think a bomb went off or...something." He made sure to catch himself before he said "an attack." He was sure he didn't look the part of a military service member, and he didn't want to go and tell Jared right off the bat that he wasn't human. "Still, he's a great guy to talk to about how stuff works."

Jared frowned slightly. Jack? Where had he heard that name before? Wait... Jack was the name of his father! Could this be going somwhere? "Jack? My Dad's called Jack too. I can't find him, though. He broke up with my Mom before I was born, but she... she was killed during a home invasion gone bad." He explained, briefly looking down at the ground in quiet sadness. "I've spent most of my life in foster care, but I finally got fed up and went off to look for him. I don't want to keep swapping parents if my only other family member is out there somewhere." He added, looking back to at Chad again with a hopeful expression, waiting to see what sort of reaction the man before him might make.

Chad was surprised. The similarities were there, but he couldn't go jumping to conclusions. "I'm sorry about your mother." He offered. "I wouldn't know what it was like to be in foster care, but it doesn't sound good. I'd offer to help you find your dad, but I wouldn't know where to start without knowing what your father looked like."

Jared paused, debating whether or not to risk the only photo of his father that he had. Carefully, he took the photo out of his back pocket, where he'd stuffed it hurriedly when Chad had approached. He looked at it for a few moments, before his gaze flickered back up to the man in front of him. "I do have a photo, but it's the only one I have. I don't want it to get ripped or lost or anything. Be careful with it, please." He pleaded, moving his arm forward to pass the photo to Chad. On it was a picture of a man and a woman stood in front of a white Mustang with blue stripes. Unbeknown to Jared, Chad would almost definitely recognize both the man in it and the car.

"I'll be very careful with it, more-so than with anything of mine." Chad assured Jared, taking the photo very carefully and gently, as though it could crumble into dust at any given moment. He looked carefully at the photo, and his eyes widened in recognition. Not only recognition at the man, but the vehicle behind the man and the woman. "Wheeljack..." He spoke very quietly in disbelief.
His real form opened up a comm line to Wheeljack once the shock began to wear off. <"Wheeljack...There's something I've found out that you might want to know..."

Jared gave Chad an odd look as he roughly caught the word that the man muttered. "Who's Wheeljack?" He asked. More importantly, why had he muttered it when he'd seen the picture? Was that some sort of nickname for... his Dad? "Wait... do you know my Dad?!" Disbelief was evident in his voice. Millions of different people across America, and he'd actually found someone who knew his father? And actually knew him enough to give him a nickname? This was crazy! He didn't think he'd get this lucky this quickly! "Do... do you know where he is?" He then questioned, hoping that Chad didn't just know of his Dad, otherwise it'd still be hard even with someone who knew him.

Wheeljack had been tinkering with a new gadget in his lab when he heard Chasm's voice over the coms calling him. He got an odd look on his face plates, wondering at the tone in the young painter's voice. <"Chasm? You alright? You sound a bit stressed er somethin'."> he replied, tilting his head and setting his tools down before turning away from his workbench and the new scanner he was working on. <"Ya need me to open a Ground Bridge for ya?"> he added and started towards his door. There was no sense of urgency from Chasm, so Wheeljack wasn't running anywhere, merely walking in his usual casual manner, though ready to make a run for it if Chasm's situation suddenly made a turn for the worse.

"Yes, yes, and as for the first question, it might be better for him to explain that." Chad replied as his real form continued the conversation over the comms. <"I'm fine. Just had a little bit of a surprise, which I'm about to tell you."> He took a large intake and let it out slowly before he continued. <"I think you have a techno-organic son.">
